Abstrak
This research is to describe the quality of the English – Bahasa Indonesia subtitle translation videos from six different channels and to describe the factors which motivate the quality of the subtitle translation. The type of this research is included as qualitative research type, because the purpose of this research is to elaborate the result of the analysis of the quality of the English - Bahasa Indonesia subtitle translation of Indonesia Foreign Affair Minister’s speech videos from six different channels. The qualitative research type is adapted from linguistic research method, here is translational (identity) method. As long as Translation Studies is going on the progress in finding its real method, the translational (identity) method is still applicable in this research. Content analysis method is employed specifically semantic content analysis method and grammatical content analysis method. Semantic content analysis method employs two meanings i.e. meaning accuracy (experiential meaning and textual meaning) and meaning clarity. And the last is grammatical content analysis method which employs expression naturalness. There are four different channel videos that reach Very Excellent Quality i.e., CNN, KOMPAS, MoFA, and Tribun. Orderly, Tribun achieves the highest quality in both translation and completeness followed by MoFA, CNN and then KOMPAS. Their English – Bahasa Indonesia subtitle translation videos are Very Excellent. The Meaning accuracy is good and generally is has correct meaning, no omission, addition or any change of meaning. The meaning clarity is good and it has appropriate words, phrases, and grammar and also clear meaning. The expression vi naturalness is good and it has correct meaning, appropriate idioms, and words although there are some syntactic structure errors. Other subtitle translation videos reach Excellent Enough Quality and Very Good Quality i.e., iNews, RCTI, and TvOne respectively. Although there is no mistake in the Meaning Accuracy, Meaning clarity, and Expression naturalness in terms of Translation Quality in both TvOne and iNews RCTI, the completeness quality is very bed and it is discussed in the next section completeness quality. In terms of completeness quality, Tribun is scored as the most compete both in technical limitation and in undelivered messages followed by MoFA, KOMPAS, and CNN and their scores are very excellent. Although there is no mistake in the meaning accuracy, meaning clarity, and expression naturalness in terms of translation quality, both iNews RCTI and TvOne, is good enough in terms of completeness. They both have no technical limitation problems but they have many undelivered messages.
