Abstrak
Yuhanita (152301805). The Correlation Between Local Culture in Malin Kundang Story and Students’ Achievement in Learning English (A Correlational Study at the Second Grade of SMA N 8 Kota Serang). Skripsi of English Education Department at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University of Banten. Advisers : Dr. H. Naf’an Tarihoran, M.Hum, and Dr. Hj. Anita, S.S., M.Pd. This study aimed to know and describe the correlatin between local culture in Malin Kundang story and students’ achievement in learning English . The subject of this research is the second grade students of SMA N 8 Kota Serang in academic year 2018-2019. There are 34 students from XI IPA 3 class selected as the sample of this study. This study uses a quantitative method with the correlational as the reasearch design of study. The instruments used for collecting data are questionnaire and test. Both are conducted to measure local culture in Malin Kundang story and students’ achievement in learning English. The data is calculated by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation to see whether there is any significant correlation between the two variables is very strong or in high level. The value of rxy was 0.807, it’s higher than the value of rt in the significance of 5% in which 0.807 > 0.349. Moreover, the significance of t contribution revealed that the result was significant with the value of tcount was 7.730. The value is higher than the value of ttable at the level of significance 0.05, in which 7.730 > 2.036. Hence, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In conclusion, there is significant correlation between local culture in Malin Kundang story and students’ achievement in learning English at the second grade of the SMA N 8 Kota Serang in Academic Year 2018-2019.
