Abstrak

This research aims to investigate the student’s coherence narrative writing and error in writing narrative text. This research investigates what are the difficulties of students especially on making coherence narrative writing. The research conducted based on statement of problem 1) what are the errors of students’ narrative writing? 2) what are the difficulties of students on making coherence narrative writing; meanwhile the objective of the research are: 1) to describe the error of students’ narrative wri ting, 2) to describe the difficulties of students on making narrative writing. The research used a descriptive qualitative study at the ninth grade of MTs. Nurul Falah Rego Pa dasuka Petir. The writer took 8 students as participant of the research. To get t he data the writer conducted documentation, observation of classroom and interview. The writer used qualitative approach of which the data is obtained from the students’ narrative writing. Then the writer analyzed the data. Based on the result of the research, the writer found that some of students making errors in generic structure of narrative text, there we re 0 % students which did not use d orientation, and there were 2 5 % students which did not used comp lication, and also there were 37.5 % students wh ich did not used resolution. However, there were 37.5% students used generic structure of narrative completely. Besides that, all of students also did not used comparative words as one of signals of coherence on writing. Furthermore, the students’ difficul ties on making narrative writing those are: they lack of English vocabulary and they not knowing how to write a coherent narrative text because they did not know words including signals of coherence on writing. Therefore, the writer assumes that the studen t’s narrative writing is not coherence yet.
