Abstrak

This research explored EFL students’ perspectives on the integration of AI tools in academic writing, conducted at English Education Department of UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. In todays’s digital era, AI tools have become increasingly important in writing activities because they can help students write more efficiently, reduce errors, and develop their ideas more clearly. This study aimed to identify the perceived benefits, challenges, and the overall impact of AI on students’ writing performance. Utilizing a survey research method, data were collected through questionnaires from 50 sixth-semester English Education students. The findings revealed that AI tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, QuillBot, and DeepL are frequently used accross various writing stages, such as brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing. In addition, most students acknowledged that AI tools improved their grammar, vocabulary, structure, ad writing fluency and increased their confidence. However, concerns were raised, such as students becoming too dependent on the tools, receiving content that felt too generic or unnatural, and difficulties accessing full features due to premium versions which require payment. This research suggested that the use of AI tools in writing activities should be balanced with students’ critical thinking and personal effort. This research contributed to the growing body of knowledge in digital-assisted languange learning and offers valuable insights for educators to integrate AI meaningfully in academic writing.
