Abstrak

Vocabulary plays an important role in language learning. Writer can not hold speaking without vocabulary. It is the basic element of English subject. Writer will not have skill in English without mastery of English vocabulary. It also plays an important role in four skills of English namely listening, speaking, reading, writing. Vocabulary is the more important to support in speaking or communication. To improve student’s vocabulary mastery, the teacher has to give stimulation to students. One way of stimulation to improve students vocabulary mastery is by using Authentic Material (Brochure). This research investigates how students improve vocabulary mastery by authentic material. The research is conducted based on statements of the problems 1) How is the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Ashhabul Maimanah Susukan Tirtayasa Serang. 2) How is the authentic material applied at the tenth grade of MA Ashhabul Maimanah Susukan Tirtayasa Serang. 3) How is the effectiveness of authentic material to Improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Ashhabul Maimanah Susukan Serang. The objective of the research is to find out the effectiveness of Authentic Material for Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery at the tenth grade of MA Ashhabul Maimanah Susukan Tirtayasa Serang. The method of this research is quantitative method and in implementation used quasi – experimental method. The sample is 40 students. The instruments used to collect dara are interview and test (pre test and post test as main instrument). The result of the realibility of test either (pre-test of control class is 0,396 and pre test of experiment class is 0,549) or (rxy from post test of control class is 0,517 and post test of experiment class is 0,701), and r table at 5% level significance for DF = N-1 = 40-1 = 39 is 0,304. rxy is greater than r table, so that those of pre and post-test are reliable. To know the significant hypothesis, the writer uses T-test, it is known that the result T-test from (pre and post-test of control class is 8,37 and the pre and post test for experiment class is 4,19). And T-table at 5% and 1% level significance for DF = N-1 = 40-1 =39 is 2,02 and 2,71. The T-test is greater than T-table. The final result of the research is there is an effectiveness of Authentic Material for Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery.
