Abstrak

An educational institution is purposely built to participate in the efforts to educate the nation. Many educational institutions have grown but unfortunately they are still far from the expected quality. This is an impact of the lack of ability of a leader in educational institutions in managing the educational institutions he leads. This study aims to provide a treasure to the leaders of educational institutions to get a formulation of effective leadership. This research is a qualitative research with a literature approach. From this research it is found that to be an effective leader, a leader in an educational institution or headmaster should be a transformational leader. The headmaster as a leader of an educational institution must understand his function as a leader, manager, and coach, have a good personality, have leadership skills, and apply leadership styles in accordance with the problems encountered and the situation and conditions in which the educational institution is positioned.
