Abstrak

This book is developed as an accompaniment and follow-up to the students’ translation course in English Studies Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. They will study terminology, concepts, techniques, and skills of translation and approaches of translation analysis. They will develop skills necessary for translation. The skills to be developed and improved are as follows: proper translation, inverse translation, reading comprehension skills, and writing skills. This book consists of 14 chapters and every chapter consist of theoretical foundation of translation; exercise with three texts to translate (two texts for proper translation practice i.e., English to Bahasa Indonesia and one text for inverse translation practice i.e., Bahasa Indonesia to English; blank pages (and tables) for writing the translation. Every chapter consists of different topics of translation i.e., the first chapter discusses introduction, the second chapter discusses translation strategies, the third chapter discusses the unit of translation, the fourth chapter discusses translation shifts, the fifth chapter discusses the analysis of meaning, the sixth chapter discusses dynamic equivalence and the receptor of the message, the seventh chapter discusses textual pragmatic and equivalence, the eight chapter discusses translation and relevance, the ninth chapter discusses text type in translation, the tenth chapter discusses the register in translation, the eleventh chapter discusses text, genre and discourse shifts in translation, the twelve chapter discusses agents of power in translation, the thirteenth chapter discusses ideology and translation, the fourteenth chapter discusses translation in the information technology era.
