Abstrak
The main Question in this paper is whether Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir al-Mishbah has applied Taḥlîlî method of Quranic Tafsîr or not and what are Quraish Shihab’s view on Hermeneutics? This paper is analyzed deductively based on the conditions and theories in methods of Quranic tafsîr. According to definitions of Taḥlîlî method, we has concluded that taḥlîlî method is interpreting the caracteristic of Quranic verses, both internal and external, based on the composition of the Quranic manuscript, and its in accordance with interpreter’s expertise and her tendency or new trends to the Quran. Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir al-Mishbah in According to Hasani Ahmad Said and Anshari in each of his dissertation is practiced of Taḥlîlî method. But in this article, shows that Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir al-Mishbah in methodology has practiced of chapter thematic method (al-tafsîr al-mawdlû’î fî al-sûrat), although in writing conditons is Taḥlîlî method. This book shows a methodological resemblance to Mahmûd Syaltût’s books entitled Tafsir Al-Qur’an al-Karîm; Al-Ajzâ Al-‘Asyarat Al-Ûlâ, and its so in accordance with Muhammad al-Ghazali’s provisions on chapter thematic method. Quraish Shihab's view of hermeneutics is more conservative than the orientation of his pluralistic social studies in Qur'anic interpretation. Hermenutics as a method of interpretation in according to him, could be replaced by takwil methodology as its objective is to publish the better text. Quraish shihab does not agree with the proponent of subjective hermeneutic in understanding al qur’an because bible is the same level with hadis, not with the qu’an. Thus, the critique of bible is not the same as the critique of the Quran
